SOUTH OF MOOSEHEAD LAKE

The southern end of Moosehead Lake can be reached via Routes 6 and 15. From Southern Maine, drive to the Newport exit (Exit 39) of I-95. Turn onto Route 7 north to Dexter, At Dexter, take a left on the second sign for Route 23, onto Route 23 north. At the end of Route 23, turn left onto Routes 6/15. The closest commercial airport to the Moosehead Lake region is in Bangor, Maine. From the airport, follow the signs to I-95 North. Exit I-95 at the Route 15 exit, only a few miles from the airport exit. Continue north on Route15 approximately 80 miles.

Greenville - See directions above. Greenville has many historical treasures to see. For more information, see Moosehead Lake Area Links

Greenville Junction - The Canadian American Railroad (a.k.a. Canadian Atlantic Railroad, Canadian Pacific Railroad) is the only remaining railroad passing through Greenville Junction. In the past decade, passenger service has been discontinued. Greenville and Greenville Junction have nearly merged, and no signs announce travel between the two towns. Remaining historical sites are the Canadian Pacific Station and the Junction Wharf, where in days past, travelers would connect with trains and steamships. Shirley - Take Route 6/15 south from Greenville. Turn right onto the Shirley Road, and continue into town. Or, take Depot St. from Greenville past the dump turnoff and continue to the town. The railroad no longer runs through Shirley, but the bed has been turned into a dirt road connecting Shirley with Greenville Junction. Historical sites are the lakeside park, the United Methodist Church, and the Shirley General Store and Post Office.
