WEST OF MOOSEHEAD LAKEMoosehead - Take Route 6/15 north. Moosehead is the former site of a railroad station. Nothing remains of this settlement but a set of sporting camps. Rockwood - Take Route 6/15 north 20 miles, and turn right at zip code sign. The two buildings of historical significance in this town are the Log Cabin Chapel and the country store, both along the lakefront. Rockwood is a town with stores, hotels, a post office, marina, and gas stations.Mount Kineo - take the ferry from Rockwood or the restored steamship Katahdin from Greenville (seasonal). At the beginning of the 20th century, Mount Kineo was the site of the glorious Mount Kineo Hotel. In the last decade, the remains of this structure were demolished. Several old houses from Mount Kineo's glory days remain. Pier, Hiking trails, and a seasonal restaurant can be found at Mount Kineo.10 Mile - Ten miles North of Rockwood on the road to Seboomook. The only remnants of this settlement are several building foundations which are difficult to find.20 Mile - 20 miles north of Rockwood on the road to Seboomook. Checkpoint where a toll is collected. One storage shed and a log cabin remain from before 1950.Somerset Junction - Take Route 6/15 North from Greenville. Turn left after bridge over the West Outlet of the Kenenbec River. Continue past the railroad trestle. Very little remains of Somerset Junction. At one point, two railroads served Somerset Junction, one of which is gone, the other is freight only and does not stop there. The bridge is gone, (although one can tell its former location) and no known remains of buildings are visible. A railroad trestle and several vacation homes can be found nearby.
